The cinema is located within the Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales, located on Aberystwyth University’s Penglais campus. One of the largest in Wales, it also comprises a theatre, concert hall, studio, as well as four gallery spaces and cafés, bars, and shops.

RMP were instructed by Aberystwyth University to provide acoustic design advice for the refurbishment of the cinema.

RMP assessed the acoustic environment of room G.38 within the Parry Williams building and gave recommendations on insulation and noise control measures as necessary to attenuate sound transfer between the proposed cinema and the existing adjacent teaching and learning spaces.

The design criteria is based on BS8233 Guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings, Noise control in building services (Sound Research Laboratories, and RMP’s own extensive cinema project experience and testing.
