Acoustic services – Student accommodation, 8 Lower Gilmore Place, Edinburgh

Client: Glencairn Properties

Architect: ISA Architects & ADP Architects

Main Contractor: Thomas Johnstone Limited

Project team: Lee Hadden, Richard Mackenzie

Completed in the Summer of 2023, this student accommodation development on the edge of the Union Canal perfectly integrates itself to its surroundings. It comprises 69 student living apartments some with views over the Capital’s Castle, within a 4-storey building including an amenity area, reception, and other back of house areas.

Involved from the early days of the development. RMP was instructed to provide Acoustic services for the development of the student accommodation located on Lower Gilmore Place. The consultant undertook a Design Review for proposed building, considering sound insulation of the internal partitions, separating partitions, and associated flanking details in accordance with Building Regulations, specific Client requirements and RMP recommendations.

Consideration was also given to the permissible levels from plant noise and reverberation time control within communal areas.

The project consultant undertook an External Plant Noise Assessment to predict noise breakout from the proposed Building Services equipment and Plant. RMP also provided recommendations to limit noise breakout to the closest Noise Sensitive receivers.

RMP consultants have been appointed to provide Acoustic Services for the next phase of the development.
