Senior Acoustic Consultant

Graduated with a Bachelor degree in Electro-Acoustic Engineering from the University of Salford.

Tim joined RMP as a senior consultant in 1999 and has more than 20 years of experience in the field of acoustic consultancy.

Project experience

Tim has extensive consultancy experience in major building acoustics, industrial and infrastructure projects across many sectors.

Design project management

Tim has managed acoustic aspects of the planning, design development, documentation, construction and commissioning of many residential, commercial and industrial building developments in the UK and has a good understanding of the relationship between the various design disciplines and required building standards and controls.  He brings experience in the design of acoustical spaces inside buildings, the effects of airborne and structure-borne noise propagation and its impacts on surrounding sensitive receivers.

Tim has worked as senior acoustic consultant on a diverse range of projects, including numerous residential & hotel developments, education and healthcare, commercial and industrial developments and infrastructure (road and rail projects).

Environmental Impact Assessment – Noise & Vibration

Tim regularly undertakes noise impact assessments in accordance with Planning Advice Note 1/2011 (for Scotland) and Planning Policy Guidance 24 (England & Wales) including transportation Road, Rail and Aircraft), leisure, commercial and IPPC industrial noise assessment.

Sound Insulation Testing

Tim undertakes sound testing for numerous Scottish new build and refurbishment projects in accordance with ISO 140 and the requirements of Section 5 of the Technical Handbook for the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004. Tim is a registered ANC tester involved in sound testing in England and Wales in accordance with Approved Document E, the Building Regulations 2000.

Expert Witness

Tim has appeared as an expert witness in Planning Inquiries and at UK Courts.


Tim has contributed to research projects on behalf of many external funding bodies including BBSRC, MRC, the Highways Agency, the International Standards Organisation, the Scottish Executive and DEFRA.  Tim has undertaken extensive laboratory testing at BPAC Hanger 17 regarding the development of new acoustic systems and products.
