On the site of the former Glasgow Coliseum Theatre, the development will provide  social homes for rent and a generous community space on Eglinton Street, near the O2 Academy. It comprises four and six storey residential blocks arranged around a central courtyard and it will offer a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments. Part of the Laurieston Transformational Regeneration Area (TRA), the development is a joint venture between New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) and Urban Union.
We were instructed by Urban Union Ltd to provide technical advice on the specification of anti-vibration bearings for four proposed residential blocks, due to the proximity of the site to the Glasgow subway underground tunnel. RMP undertook ground vibration monitoring and provided an auralisation to help provide a subjective impression of the design criterion and predicted level.
RMP Consultants undertook an auralisation exercise at Edinburgh Napier University Merchiston Campus’ bespoke auralisation suite. It consisted of a listening room, which simulated the predicted re-radiated noise experienced in a ground floor bedroom, associated with subway train pass-bys, with and without anti-vibration bearings.
The Auralisation exercise was attended by key decision makers within the development team. The combination of survey works, data analysis, review of UK guidance and the auralisation exercise, led to a consensual agreement between parties, including Glasgow City Council, on the groundborne noise limit to set inside the proposed flats.
