Tynecastle Park presented a highly unusual airtightness challenge. The building included complex internal volumes, multi-level circulation routes, extensive connected voids, and operational stadium / hospitality areas — placing it well beyond the scope of a straightforward commercial airtightness test.
RMP was appointed to provide both airtightness testing and compliance consultancy, helping the project team understand how the building could be assessed, tested and ultimately demonstrated as compliant.
Our role went beyond simply attending site with a blower door. We reviewed the regulatory position, assessed the practical test boundary, considered the limitations of fan capacity and pressure behaviour, and developed a clear testing strategy using ISO 9972 / ATTMA special-case methodology.
Following initial investigation, we identified the key issues affecting the building envelope and provided targeted remedial guidance. This included practical advice on boundary continuity, leakage paths and the works required to create a reliable testable envelope.
The recommended strategy allowed the project team to focus remedial works where they mattered most. On retest, the stadium achieved the anticipated passing result, confirming the effectiveness of the approach.
This project demonstrates RMP’s ability to support complex, high-value buildings where standard testing assumptions are not enough. By combining advanced airtightness testing, regulatory understanding and practical site experience, we helped deliver a clear, evidence-based route to compliance.
