ANC Registered Sound Insulation Tester and EAS accredited Air Tightness Tester
Gareth graduated with BEng (Hons) in Energy and Environmental Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in 2009. Joining RMP in 2015 as an Acoustic & Energy tester, Gareth has made his way up to his current position as Associate Consultant. During his time at RMP he has completed the IOA’s Postgraduate Diploma in Acoustics and Noise control and is now a full member of the Institute of Acoustics.
Gareth has undertaken a wide variety of projects including building sound insulation and reverberation time testing, acoustic modelling, industrial and commercial noise assessments, as well as being an ANC registered tester. As an EAS registered Air Tightness tester (level 2), Gareth also undertakes Air Tightness testing in domestic and non-domestic properties for a variety of projects including: Ogilvie Homes residential developments, McCarthy & Stone retirement properties, Premier Inn Hotels & Tayport Community Centre.
In his spare time Gareth is a keen rugby supporter and keen golfer. When not trying to improve his handicap on the golf course, he can be found keeping fit attempting triathlons or half-marathons.

Design
Gareth has been the lead design consultant in multiple acoustic design of projects including residential developments, educational, student accommodation and health care. This involves use of Insul and Odeon noise modelling software. Projects include the Edinburgh student accommodation developments at Iona Street and Jocks Lodge, the replacement Beeslack High School, residential development at Belford Road for AMA Homes. Gareth has worked as the project consultant for the conversion of the former Royal Hospital for Sick Children into residential properties for Square & Crescent.
Site inspections
As part of the acoustic design services as described above, Gareth regularly undertakes site inspections at all stages of the project; for pre-conversion surveys (for refurbishment projects) as well as during the construction phase to ensure appropriate detailing and workmanship have been implemented. He also provides on-going design advice on all design projects during design and construction phases, which requires review of acoustic detailing drawings, specification of building materials and review of contractor proposals and alternative detailing and materials.
Sound Insulation Testing
Gareth regularly undertakes sound insulation testing throughout the UK for a variety of projects including: commercial (schools, hotels, student accommodation, offices) completion testing, façade insulation measurements, pre-refurbishment tests for conversions, insulation assessments for upgrades to pubs and clubs as well as completion testing for dwellings under ISO 140, Approved Document E of the England and Wales Building Regulations, BREEAM, BB93, Code for Sustainable Homes and Section 5-Noise of Scottish Technical Standards.
Environmental Impact Assessment – Noise & Vibration
Gareth regularly undertakes noise impact assessments, across the UK in accordance with relevant planning guidelines. Sources include transportation (Road, Rail and ASHP), leisure, commercial and industrial noise. Where applicable, Gareth utilises CadnaA noise modelling software to assist in the delivery of the project. Projects include Robertson Homes, CCG, hotel development at Atholl Crescent and student accommodation at Jocks Lodge.
Sports Noise
Gareth has also undertaken noise assessments for sports noise assessments. Projects include clay pigeon shooting at Crieff Hydro, Edinburgh Rugby and George Watsons School.
Air Tightness Testing & Thermal Imaging
Gareth is a Level 2 accredited by the Elmhurst Airtightness Testing Scheme (EAS) to undertake air tightness testing of domestic and commercial buildings. He regularly undertakes thermography as well as air tightness testing. Projects include Montgomerie Park Primary School, Ferguson Vet Clinic, Premier Inn Hotels, Ogilvie Homes and AMA Homes.
